I started volunteering my time to the local football community and the first thing I noticed was the severe lack of a web-presence. When you want to know results, league tables and future fixtures where better to look than your own website?

Because the club is virtually a charity I decided to give the website and hosting for free. (Pats himself on the back)

So what do you look for when you need a site that is constantly being updated by a small group of people? A CMS of course, instead of using a CMS solution like WordPress or Joomla I decided to test my PHP skillset since I hadnt used it in a while. So I developed a login form, easy enough, then I wanted to find the best CMS available that had all the tools that even a non-techie could handle. A bit of research later and I stumbled across FCKeditor as it was known back then, it’s now known as CKeditor. Using a little manipulation I implemented the editor to connect to the database and there you go, simple and easy. By making the editor only available when a person is logged in to the admin area.

Hard part done, just the menu and cosmetics. I wanted to keep the site very basic, bright and a bit of fun since it’s a football club. I chose this:

Information front and centre – check
Easy navigation – check
Easy login –  check

Job’s a good one and during the season the site gets about 40 uniques a day, not bad from since there’s only about 90 families signed up.
